Beer Brothers Podcast: Prairie Artisan Ales Bomb!

Our mom, Linda, was recently listening to the fairly famous show – Car Talk on NPR. In her own words, she has no real interest in anything automotive but she loves the show. She knows my brother, Tyler, and I love to talk about beer and an idea was formed – PODCAST! Of all the endless ideas Tyler and I are floating back and forth, leave it to the Mother to come up with one we can actually execute on. Guess that’s why she’s the parent 🙂

Now, please be gentle. This is our first episode. It’s probably a bit rough. Scratch that, it probably sounds like shit. BUT – there is a surprisingly steep learning curve to go from phone call banter to a podcast magically appearing on iTunes. What I’m trying to say is, I got impatient trying to make this thing perfect and desperately needed to post SOMETHING. I promise, they’ll get better as we go.

In this inaugural show, we discuss Bomb!, an imperial stout aged on aged on espresso beans, chocolate, vanilla beans, and ancho chile peppers from Prairie Artisan Ales out of Oklahoma. With Tyler in San Diego and me in St. Louis, the idea is to look for beers we can both buy locally. So take a listen and let us know what you think!

  1. Awesome you guys! So fun to hear your voices and your laughter!

  2. Left me giggling and thirsty for a “Bomb”!
I am still curious about the difference between a “Stout”, an “Imperial Stout” and a “Porter”. Wondered if there is a geographic/ historical context? Guessing for starters there is a class distinction in Europe between anything Imperial and a Porter which I think is a workman classification.

I think you should start to build your own classification system!
    Thank you fir entertaining me!

    • Thanks! The distinction is fuzzy at best, expert brewers seem to all have a slightly different explanation but I’m sure it has something to do with the workman classification if we dug deeper.

  3. Hi Niel and Tyler!!! I listen to around sixteen podcasts each week and for your first one, you guys did an excellent job!!! Even though I don’t particularly like beer, I did enjoy listening to you talk about it. It actually made me want to try this beer. Sounds great. There is a podcast called ‘windows weekly’ that runs about an hour each week and at the end of the show (even though it is about the computer world and Microsoft), two of the hosts, Paul Thurrott of Thurrott.com and Mary Jo Foley of ‘All About Microsoft’ give their beer picks of the week and spend some time before the show ends talking about them. They also get together after some big shows throughout the year to have a beer fest and usually report on that at the next show. Glad you are doing this and looking forward to your next podcast. 🙂
